Delivering Evidence-based Physical Activity Behaviour Change in Primary Care and Community Settings

The National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC), in collaboration with HSE Health and Wellbeing, is pleased to offer a comprehensive, free online training programme designed specifically for healthcare professionals in Ireland. The Delivering Evidence-based Physical Activity Behaviour Change course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to empower clinicians in promoting and integrating physical activity into patient care.

This online programme begins with a live online introductory session, followed by five self-paced online modules over a three-month period and concludes with an interactive consolidation session.

Participants may select from two course start dates:

  • Wednesday, 26th March 6:30 – 8:30 pm
  • Tuesday, 20th May, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Course content includes:
  • Fundamentals of Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour
  • The Current Landscape in Primary Care and Community Settings
  • Understanding Behaviour Change – The Essentials
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Measurement, Monitoring and Goal Setting to Promote Physical Activity

Applications are encouraged from healthcare professionals working in primary care and community setting, with the prerequisite of completing the HSE Making Every Contact Count (MECC) e-learning course.

Delivering Evidence-based Obesity Management

The NIPC are thrilled to announce the first Delivering Evidence-based Obesity Management courses of the year. This comprehensive, free online training and education programme is designed to equip healthcare professionals in Ireland with the essential knowledge, skills and competencies required to deliver evidence-based obesity management.

The course begins with a live, online introductory session, followed by eight self-paced online modules completed over three months. It concludes with a live, interactive consolidation session, providing participants with an opportunity to reinforce their learning.

Participants may select from two course start dates:

  • Wednesday, 2nd April, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
  • Thursday, 1st May, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Applications are invited from healthcare professionals currently practicing in Ireland, particularly those working within Chronic Disease Hubs or involved in chronic disease management in primary care settings

Course content includes:

  • ASOI Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Understanding obesity and its current prevalence in Ireland
  • Addressing obesity stigma and integrating patient perspectives
  • Conducting obesity assessments in primary care
This course aims to support healthcare professionals in delivering compassionate, patient-centred obesity care aligned with current clinical best practices.

Irish Nurses Cardiovascular Association Annual Scientific Meeting
