Dear NIPC Alliance members. Welcome to the December 2023 e-Bulletin, which of course is our last of the year. This year has been another great one for us at NIPC, and I hope for you too. Some notable highlights include the 10th annual National Prevention Conference last month in Athlone.

This had the best attendance of any of our annual conferences so far, with tickets ‘sold out’ (thanks to sponsors, tickets are free). Dr Jenni Jones did an outstanding job as always, with a truly engaging programme and a great line up of National and International thought leaders as speakers and faculty. Another highlight this year was the recent graduation ceremony for our suite of 5 MSc programmes run with University of Galway. Congratulations to all our wonderful students! At that ceremony we also had the opportunity to celebrate the honorary doctorate awarded to our departing CEO Neil Johnson. This was a joyous occasion and it was wonderful to take stock of the amazing life and work of Neil, a true powerhouse and trailblazer of Irish cardiology.

Third, we welcome our new CEO, Dr Sandra Ganly. I’m excited to see the impact of her enthusiasm and expert skill set. Fourth, Professor Wood and I were delighted to present the results of our NIPC coordinated international cohort study. NIPC enrolled over 4500 participants from 14 countries around the world. These data were presented at the ESC congress in Amsterdam. The results are hugely important for international CVD prevention and it is such an honour for an Irish Institute to be leading this international effort. Publication of the results is underway. Next up for NIPC research in 2024 – Euroaspire 6!!! 

Onwards and upwards! As always, next year is stocked full of great educational offerings from NIPC also, which I encourage you to consider.
