Dear colleagues,

It is a great honour, on behalf of our NIPC team, to announce our in-person National Prevention Conference 2024 officially open!

Registration is free and places are limited (with a waiting list anticipated) – so we do urge you to secure your place early. The 8th of November in Tullamore Court Hotel is the date and place to be. Join us to immerse in a truly formidable programme coupled with the valuable opportunity for information exchange and networking. This year’s theme centres around the interconnections between cardio-renal and metabolic conditions, particularly highlighting key advances, challenges and opportunities of integrated approaches in all health-related settings. We are joined by an exceptional line up of world leading national and international experts presenting us with new guidelines, key advances in therapeutics, latest science in evidence-informed approaches to lifestyle, psychological health and population-specific considerations – collectively supporting and further inspiring us in our shared passion, energy and continued drive to implement the highest quality preventive practice across primary care, hospital and community settings. Some of the programme highlights are shared below and we hope to see you there.

There is more! If you can get to Tullamore for 18:00 on the 7th of November in-person, you have the added bonus of joining a special sponsored symposium totally focussed on a “whistle-stop tour of what you need to know in the 4 new 2024 ESC guidelines” – Elevated Blood Pressure and Hypertension; Atrial Fibrillation; Chronic Coronary Syndromes; and Peripheral Arterial and Aortic Diseases. This symposium is a hybrid NIPC Series and so will also be available as an online stand-alone option. Look out for the details to register for this too. A great line up to share with us the most important messages from each of these new guidelines.

Abstract submissions are also now open so please do submit your science, research and any relevant project work. This is an important opportunity to showcase and share your contributions and valued insights into the future of prevention and cardiovascular health. Successful abstracts will be invited to present in the poster-exhibition area, with a number of prizes available this year that will be announced in the closing session.

What else is coming up in the NIPC Training and Education offerings? Short courses in “Integrated Approaches in Cardiometabolic Conditions”, “Physical Activity and Behaviour Change” and “Demystifying the ECG” are all currently open for applications. Plus, our Integrated Diabetes Care Conference on the 12th of October has a handful of places remaining. As NIPC Alliance members, our monthly e-bulletins and alerts aim to ensure you are the first to hear of forthcoming NIPC educational opportunities. We welcome your contributions as we plan for 2025 and beyond, so please get in touch with any feedback or ideas.

This is a really exciting time for prevention matters in Ireland. There is considerable national investment coupled with a number of ground-breaking advances in cardio-renal-metabolic condition management (and chronic disease more widely). We take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support as valued NIPC Alliance members as we collectively strive to raise the flag for prevention.

Hope to see you in Tullamore in November, if not before!

Dr Jennifer Jones
