Professor David Wood Receives Prestigious International Award

from the World Hypertension League

 

The NIPC is thrilled to announce that Professor David Wood, Director of Science, Strategy and International Relations at the NIPC, has been Awarded the World Hypertension League’s ‘Daniel Lackland Excellence Award in Diplomacy and Advocacy for Population Hypertension Risk Reduction’. This highly respected international award is given to world leaders who make tangible progress towards population prevention and control of hypertension.

The award was presented by Professor Lackland, Past President of the World Hypertension League and Professor of Epidemiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, to Professor Wood at an event in Galway on 8th September 2022. At the award presentation, Professor Lackland highlighted the important work of the World Hypertension League and their commitment to optimising and advancing the prevention and control of hypertension. Professor Lackland praised the sustained and long term impact of Professor Wood’s activities on the control of hypertension at population level over the course of his career.

Professor Bill McEvoy, Medical and Research Director at the NIPC said “We are delighted that David has been recognised for his dedication, commitment and achievement in population hypertension risk reduction. This is a great international honour and it is truly deserved by David”.

On receiving the award, Professor Wood said ‘I am honoured to receive such a prestigious international award from the World Hypertension League. It has been a privilege to dedicate my work to such an important cause that impacts on communities throughout the world. I’m am grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing building on our vitally important work in hypertension risk reduction.’
