Supported by HSE and Healthy Ireland, this is a free, 3-month online course designed to equip Cardiac Rehabilitation Practitioners in Ireland with the core knowledge, skills and competences to deliver rehabilitation services in clinical practice.

The course begins with a two-part online introductory session. Participants then complete 7 online modules in their own time, before returning for a live online consolidation session at the end of the course. Please find more details on course modules below.

Applications are welcome from current healthcare practitioners working in Cardiac Rehabilitation in Ireland.

NMBI and ICGP CPD approved.

Modules

Module 1: Evidence and Practice

  • Contemporary evidence for cardiac rehabilitation and its implications in Ireland
  • Approaches that most effectively increase programme uptake

Module 2: How to Assess and Evaluate Outcomes

  • The role of the multidisciplinary team in assessment and evaluation
  • Tools to assess health behaviour change
  • Measures and tools for lifestyle-related risk factors

Module 3: Health Behaviour Change in Practice

  • Why health behaviour change underpins successful cardiac rehabilitation
  • Principles and methods to support health behaviour change

Module 4: Lifestyle-Based Management

  • Tobacco exposure and dependence
  • Fundamentals of nutrition
  • Physiological changes with exercise training
  • Resources for patient signposting

Module 5: Addressing Psychological Health Effectively

  • Common psychological factors related to heart disease
  • The role of practitioners in addressing sexual health
  • Key skills for delivering interventions

Module 6: Medical Management of BP, Lipids and Glucose

  • Management of hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and diabetes
  • Evidence base for cardioprotective drug therapies
  • Promoting adherence to preventive medications

Module 7: Models of Cardiac Rehabilitation

  • Key considerations for alternative methods of delivery
  • Evidence for centre-based vs. home-based rehabilitation
  • Evidence for internet-based rehabilitation

Course Assessment
This is a one hour 30 multiple choice question exam.
