Healthcare professionals are trained as experts to assess and determine the best care plan to benefit those living with diabetes and obesity. However, this is only the starting point, as health behaviour change requires the bulk of the work to be done by the person with diabesity.

Watch Prof Michael Vallis’ (Health Psychologist and Associate Professor at Dalhousie University in Canada) session from the 2021 National Prevention Conference as he explores how healthcare professionals can empower patients, the importance of understanding behaviour as opposed to judging behaviour, as well as, sharing easy to adapt principles of motivational communication to promote self-management.
